Lent Day 39

Good morning! Welcome to Holy Week!

Today, we are asked to read Luke 23:34 and Jeremiah 31:31-34.

In Jeremiah, we read the promise of a new covenant, one that would be fulfilled in Christ's death and resurrection; a covenant of grace, mercy, compassion, and most importantly, forgiveness.  Jesus, empty handed on the cross,  still has one of the greatest gifts to offer us: God's forgiveness. Through the cross, we receive new life because of his loving forgiveness.

What does it feel like to be forgiven?

There have been a few times in my life that I've messed up. I've hurt someone. Do you ever feel such great remorse for your mistake that it makes you sick to your stomach?! You may even avoid the person you hurt to avoid stirring up the guilt.  And then you finally approach that person to seek forgiveness, only to learn that they moved past it, forgave you in their own heart and mind, and you were the only one feeling horrible for what was said or done! The relief, the weight that was lifted from your shoulders, and the utter joy that fills your heart is hard to describe. You can experience that type of forgiveness every time you go to God seeking forgiveness!

Blessings,

Pastor Jesse
