Lent Day 35

Good morning,

Today, our Scriptures are John 3:3 and Ephesians 4:25-32.

The words of Jesus tell us many things about ourselves. They seem to sink deep, beyond the surface level that we often expose to the world. His words tell us of all kinds of truths, ranging from love, mercy, peace, wisdom, anger, fear, and much more. He never speaks falsely, but with truth and honesty.

The way his words are able to penetrate our hearts makes me think of an old saying about the Japanese. This saying in Japanese philosophy refers to 3 faces or masks, however the Spaniard Rodrigues, in his attempt to translate used the word heart.

"The Japanese have three hearts, a false one in their mouths for all the world to see, another within their breasts only for their friends, and a third in the depths of their hearts, reserved for themselves alone and never manifested to anyone.”

We may not ever fully open our third heart to anyone of this world, but we must find a way to soften our hearts to allow the trustworthy words of Jesus to get through and sink in deep.

Write some words from Scripture that you want to memorize. Let them sink deep!

Blessings,

Pastor Jesse
